DWG  DWG (from drawing) is a binary file format used for storing two- and three- dimensional design data and metadata. It is the native format for several CAD packages including DraftSight, AutoCAD, IntelliCAD (and its variants) and Caddie

DXF (Document EXchange Format file) An AutoCAD 2D and 3D graphics file format. ASCII based, many CAD systems import and export the DXFformat for graphics interchange

EPS The EPS format preserves many of the graphic elements you can create with Adobe Illustrator, which means that EPS files can be reopened and edited as Illustrator files. Because EPS files are based on the PostScript language, they can contain both vector and bitmap graphics.

AI Adobe Illustrator Artwork is a proprietary file format developed by Adobe Systems for representing single-page vector-based drawings in either the EPS or PDF formats. The .ai filename extension is used by Adobe Illustrator.

CDR A CDR file is a drawing created with CorelDRAW. It is saved in a proprietary vector graphics format that can be opened by Corel software programs.

PDF Stands for "Portable Document Format." PDF is a multi-platform file format developed by Adobe Systems. A PDF file captures document text, fonts, images, and even formatting of documents from a variety of applications. You can e-mail a PDF document to your friend and it will look the same way on his screen as it looks on yours, even if he has a Mac and you have a PC. Since PDFs contain color-accurate information, they should also print the same way they look on your screen.

SVG Short for Scalable Vector Graphics, a vector graphics file format that enables two-dimensional images to be displayed in XMLpages on the Web. Vector images are created through text-based commands formatted to comply with XML specifications. In contrast to JPEG andGIF images on the Web, which are bitmapped and always remain a specified size, SVG images are scalable to the size of the viewing window and will adjust in size and resolution according to the window in which it is displayed.

PSD (PhotoShop Document) Photoshop's native, layered file format, which is a de facto standard in the graphics arts industry for bitmapped images.

RASTER BASED FILES Raster graphics can typically be scaled down with no loss of quality, but enlarging a bitmap image causes it to look blocky and "pixelated." For this reason, vector graphics are often used for certain images, such as company logos, which need to be scaled to different sizes.

Common raster based file formats include: .bmp, .gif, .tiff, .jpeg
